Movidius Neural Compute Stick – an artificial mind on a flash drive / Blog of Intel / SurprizingFacts

On July 20, Intel announced the release of Movidius Neural Compute Stick – a miniature accelerator for solutions related to artificial intelligence, neural networks and in-depth study. Performed in a USB flash drive format, the accelerator will allow the implementation of elements of artificial intelligence on a wide variety of platforms and devices, which I think will be appreciated by fans of robotics, flying devices, as well as developers of various intelligent devices.

The company Movidius, acquired by Intel late last year, specializes in the development of hardware and software components of artificial intelligence. The basis of the Neural Compute Stick is the developed Movidius Vision Processing Unit (VPU) Myriad 2 – a specialized computing device with low power consumption (only 1 Watt), but with decent performance – 100 Gigaflops. Such characteristics allow the Movidius Neural Compute Stick to work completely autonomously, without access to the Internet and cloud services.

Movidius Neural Compute Stick allows you to quickly and conveniently prototype, profile and customize flows in convolutional neural networks (CNN) for the needs of the end applications. For developers, a specialized Neural Compute SDK was created. Thus, a device equipped with a USB port can become intelligent, self-contained and self-learning.

The accelerator is available for ordering at $ 79.
